Santa Cruz to Celebrate 100 Years of its Iconic Wharf

SANTA CRUZ — Jon Bombaci got hooked on fishing at six years old when he caught his first perch from the back seat of a 1952 Chevy parked on the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf.

There were no railings or curbs along the wharf in those days, which explains why Bombaci's father made his son hang his fishing rod from the car window.

"That experience made a lifelong fisherman out of me," said Bombaci, 58, wharf supervisor of 31 years.
